YB TKD COPPERFIELD FAQ’S

Taekwondo and Karate are two of the most well-known martial arts. Taekwondo is a Korean art, while Karate is a Japanese art. Taekwondo uses most of the same hand techniques as karate but relies mostly on kicking techniques. Taekwondo is characterized by its emphasis on head-height kicks, jumping and spinning kicks, and fast kicking techniques in addition to an array of hand techniques. However, all martial arts have benefits. Young Brothers TKD Copperfield believes that it is more important to be comfortable with the school's overall goals, the instructor's teaching skills, and the learning atmosphere than to choose a school based only on the style of martial art, the location, or the price.

We teach a practical, responsible self-defense program. We take the self-defense aspect very seriously. Children learn that martial arts is not about violence but about developing skills, they can use safely in a tough situation. Any aggression the child brings in to the program usually disappears with continued training and increased self-esteem.
Yes. At Young Brothers TKD Copperfield School, we teach the Taekwondo tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. We have students that joined as kids and persevered through their black belts. They are good people, and we think Taekwondo helped. In addition, it is really fun having the whole family involved!
Bowing is a way to show respect. There is no religion in taekwondo. You bow to your instructors and to other students to show that you respect them. They will also bow to you to show you the same respect.
There are not age limits for becoming a Taekwondo student. At Young Brothers TKD Schools, we train students as young as 5 years old. You are never too old to start taekwondo, as long as you do not have existing joint or back problems. Properly taught, taekwondo does not usually create injuries, but it can exacerbate existing conditions.
Board breaking demonstrates correct technique. Some board breaking can get pretty complex with powerful strikes. A kick or hand strike that can break a 1-inch thick pine board can break a bone. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! Attempting to break a board with poor technique can result in serious injury.
This is almost impossible to answer as it depends on how often the student trains, how hard they train and how quickly they learn. Students who are more dedicated and train hard will obviously achieve their black belt before other less devoted students but to put a time span on it is difficult. Even the most dedicated of students should train at least three years before being allowed to Dan Grade.
Of course! Some of our best martial artists, including instructors and assistants, are female. Because Taekwondo is a kicking art, it is particularly effective as a practical selfdefense program for women and children. In addition that is a good cardio workout.
